The Great Penguin Giveaway
Aug. 10th, 2007 03:04 pmUnfortunately and before you get your hopes up, you can't get an Aptenodytes patagonicus (thanks Wikipedia).
Rather, Penguin have been offering a free random Penguin Classic in return for a blogged review within 6 weeks of receipt.
http://www.blogapenguinclassic.co.uk/site/pcMain.php5
Apparently the offer has now closed as they have taken orders for all of the current list, all 1400 titles.
Cunningly, one of the early reviews featured on the website is for Bram Stoker's Dracula. I think perhaps this may have been done on purpose to lull you into a false sense of security about what other great works might be on the list.
My review copy is Anthony Trollope's 'Dr Thorne'
Quoting from Amazon:
"Dr Thorne is human, reticent, stern and honourable. He has the strength to stand up to his destructive prejudices and fears of mid-Victorian society but at the same time does not abandon its traditional values. This book is about the problem of a potentially unsuitable marriage."
Somewhat outside of my normal reading fare, as FTL drives, ancient prophecies, wormholes, magic, knife missiles, assassins etc don't seem to feature prominently...
however spare a thought for
n3dst4 who joined in the promotion as a result of my cajoling and ended up with "The Penguin Book of Hebrew Verse". Oy Vey!
