Fallout3DC, originally uploaded by will_plant.

So I'm reading thelondonpaper on the way home this evening (one of two competing evening freesheets) when i notice the 24hrs in Pictures section on page 2.

There's a picture of a shattered Washington DC after a nuclear attack with the byline:

"CHILLING : A computer-generated image of Washington DC after a nuclear attack. The image was discovered on al-Qaeda-affiliated forums, along with discussion on the possibility and risks of a nuclear strike on the West."

Strangely the picture was familiar to me. I 'discovered' it months ago. It is concept art used in the creation of the computer game Fallout 3.

A game that just like the two earlier installments is set after a nuclear war.

The art is viewable in its original context here:

So that's where Osama's been hiding, he's living in a Vault somewhere being looked after by a Mr Handy. Let's hope his water chip doesn't break...

But seriously, is this rampant scaremongering or just plain useless journalism?

Apologies for the dodgy scan but I got caught in the monsoon that is gripping the UK at the moment.
