Finally got around to scanning some of my Japan photos after only SIX years...

Quality is not great but ok for a PC screen (plus i can't really afford a negative scanner...)

this is a first try at getting LJ and Flickr to play nicely.

Bitchu Matsuyama-Jo (castle) is the highest castle in Japan (430 metres) and a substantial walk up from the town of Takahashi in the valley. However arriving later than I planned I got a taxi halfway up and walked the rest.

It was a slightly overcast day and there was only one other visitor: a retired Japanese gentleman who was, I discovered, on a trip to visit all the castles in Japan. The climb is considered strenuous enough that there was a machine dispensing free green tea to revive yourself whilst watching the video tour.

There was also a fair amount of renovation work being done on the walls / rock faces with abseiling builders wearing hard hats etc

It is a very atmospheric place and I am in agreement with the Lonely Planet guide in that you feel like you have walked onto the set of a Kurosawa Akira samurai film.
